Via Ferrata Expedition: The complete experience
Want the full via ferrata experience all in one tour? Climb the Wall of Witches & Olavsrute in this two days.
On the first day of the tour, you climb the Wall of Witches to get a good taste of what’s to come… You’ll also be fully acquainted with the equipment before you challenge yourself on the Olavsrute on day two.
Set up the camp for the night once you’ve reached the shelter about halfway up the mountain. It’s time for a night hovering in a hammock with views over the fjord and Hornelen. Cook a delicious meal with your travel companions and the guide. You have plenty of time for light-hearted chats or deep conversations before you hit the hay.
We hope you slept great! Because upon sunrise, you pack up again and get ready to climb Olavsrute, all the way to the top of the mountain. Climb the viking king Olav Trygvasson’s climbing route, up vertical and with overhanging sections. The crux comes right at the end, so save your energy for when it really counts! There is 45 meters of overhanging climbing; if you packed too much for the overnight trip, you will feel it…
Enjoy the well-deserved views on top of Hornelen mountain. But keep in mind that your expedition is not done yet! The hiking trail awaits you.

A break from the world
This expedition is around 30 hours and challenging, but all the more rewarding. The climbing sections are graded C/D (The Wall of Witches) and F (Olavsrute), meaning you need to be in very good physical shape and have previous climbing experience.
Do you want to climb The Wall of Witches and Olavsrute wrapped in one experience? Then this is the tour for you. No need to worry about accommodation or food, since this is all taken care of. The only thing you need to do is enjoy it!
Normally, The Wall of Witches and Olavsrute are two separate tours and cannot be done on the same day and require you to come back another day. But with Expedition, you get the full experience in ‘just’ 30 hours. Including a special night sleeping in a hammock in the open air…
The hike starts from Basecamp where you will climb the Wall of Witches in circa 4 hours. Then you camp in Smalsarhuken, our shelter, where you cook dinner and spend the night. The next morning, you climb Olavsrute in circa 5 hours before you spend 3 hours hiking back toBasecamp.
