The Wall of Witches – powerful, fun and moderate
Hornelen Via Ferrata welcomes you to the Wall of Witches, a guided trip on the lower half of mighty Hornelen. First, you go on the intro wall, where you get to know how the equipment works, test your grip and challenge gravity.
Further on, we will climb the powerful and steep Wall of Witches until you reach Smalsarhuken, a shelter where you can eat our lunch and enjoy the views in good company. Here you can dry your sweat as well as feel the power of your accomplishment! This trip does not end up on top of Hornelen, and it is not possible to continue to the top on foot. Then follow the return path back to Basecamp
How difficult is this trip?
The route is graded to a C/D, and offers horizontal and vertical parts, both going up and down. There are also overhanging sections, which ups the difficulty. One should be prepared to hang on one arm to clip the carabiners in some spots. Are you in doubt, book a guided tour, where you get skilled guidance and belaying by rope if needed/wanted.
This is the trip for you if you are in shape, has tried Via Ferrata or climbing before, wants to challenge your fear of heights and have a nice experience in nature with airy exposure over the fjord.

Climbing a Via Ferrata in such spectacular surroundings, gives a great feeling of accomplishment and joy because of the impressive nature. The trip starts with an approach along the waterfront, approx. 45 minutes. Then, there will be about 3 hours of climbing, before the 1,5 hours walk back to base. This trip takes about 6 hours from start to finish.

No, the Wall of Witches tour does not go the summit of Hornelen. The tour returns about half-way up the mountain. While you may not reach the summit, you’ll for sure feel on top of the world after finishing this tour.
